Vaccinations are one of the most important ways to protect your pet from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Whether you have a playful puppy, curious kitten or an adult pet, keeping their vaccinations up to date helps protect both your pet and the wider animal community.
At Sandy Paws Vet, we’ll recommend a vaccination schedule that’s tailored to your pet’s age, lifestyle and individual needs.

Why are vaccinations important?
Regular vaccination appointments also give us the opportunity to perform a full health check and discuss any concerns you may have about your pet’s wellbeing.
Puppy and kitten vaccinations
To build long-term protection, puppies and kittens require a series of vaccinations, usually beginning from around 6 to 8 weeks of age, followed by additional vaccinations several weeks apart.
We’ll recommend the most appropriate vaccination schedule based on your pet and current veterinary guidelines.
Adult booster vaccinations
Regular booster vaccinations help maintain your pet’s immunity and ensure they’re protected throughout their life. During these visits we’ll also perform a comprehensive health check to monitor your pet’s overall health.
After your pet’s vaccination
Most pets feel completely normal after their vaccination, although some may experience mild tiredness or slight tenderness around the injection site for a day or two.
We recommend:
- Providing plenty of fresh water
- Allowing your pet to rest if needed
- Monitoring them over the next 24 to 48 hours

Vaccinations for dogs
Dogs are routinely vaccinated against a number of serious infectious diseases, including:
- Canine Parvovirus
- Canine Distemper
- Infectious Canine Hepatitis
- Kennel Cough
- Leptospirosis (recommended depending on lifestyle and risk)
Every dog is different, so we’ll recommend the vaccinations that best suit their age, lifestyle and environment.

Vaccinations for cats
Cats require protection against several highly contagious diseases throughout their lives
Depending on your cat’s lifestyle, vaccinations may include protection against:
- Feline Enteritis (Panleukopenia)
- Feline Herpesvirus
- Feline Calicivirus (Cat Flu)
- Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV)
- Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) for cats with outdoor access
- Chlamydia felis (where appropriate)
We’ll help you choose the right vaccination program based on whether your cat lives indoors, outdoors or a combination of both.
